I don't know, the drive-thru sounds to me like it could work. If a patron finds an item they want on the online catalog, they can request it with a few clicks of the mouse, but they still have to drive to the library, park (which can be a major chore in some places), schlep into the library (which also can be a chore, depending on distance and weather), wait in line at the desk, and finally check out the item. It would be a lot easier to drive up, hand over your card (either directly through a window or one of those pneumatic tubes they use at the bank), and have your item handed back to you. If you have to wait, at least you're sitting down in your own car with your own music. I bet people would use it.
I can only see it working for picking up requested items, though--trying to answer a reference question or help someone browse through the drive-thru would be a nightmare.
